Thijs Giezen (1982) obtained his PharmD from Utrecht University in 2006. After his graduation, he started a PhD project at the division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology, Utrecht University, which resulted in a thesis on the risk management of biologicals from a regulatory and clinical perspective. His PhD was combined with a position as a pharmacovigilance assessor at the Medicines Evaluation Board in the Netherlands. During his PhD he obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from Utrecht University. Between 2011 and 2014 Thijs was trained as a hospital pharmacist in the Medical Spectrum Twente in Enschede.
Thijs currently holds a position as a hospital pharmacist and director of pharmacy at the Foundation Pharmacy for Hospitals in Haarlem. He is a member of the Biosimilar Working Party at the European Medicines Agency with a specific focus on clinical safety and pharmacovigilance.
