Evelina Tacconelli is the Director of the Infectious Diseases Department at Verona University Hospital, Italy, and serves as Senior Consultant on Antimicrobial Resistance at the Department of Internal Medicine, DZIF Clinical Research Unit at the University of Tübingen, Germany. Major topics of her research include prevention and treatment of infections caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria and antibiotic stewardship.Prof. Tacconelli is the Chair of the European Committee for Infection Control (EUCIC) and WHO and ECDC consultant for infection control and antimicrobial stewardship. She currently serves as coordinator of the Italian working group on optimising antibiotics’ prescriptions for AIFA, the Italian Medicine Agency. She is chief author of several international guidelines as the ESCMID guidelines for the management and control of infections due to MDR-Gram negatives, surgical prophylaxis in colonised patients, and the EUCIC guidelines for the decolonisation of MDR-gram negatives. She coordinated the first WHO priority list of antibiotic resistant bacteria for R&D of new effective antibiotics and she is currently leading the 2022 update.
She has participated and coordinated several European projects and networks focused on antimicrobial resistance. She is the coordinator of ORCHESTRA – Connecting European Cohorts to Increase Common and Effective Response to SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic – funded by the European Union’s H2020 Programme building up a European platform currently including more than 1,300,000 patients’ level data. She is author and co-author of over 300 publications and has an h-index of 70.
